I joined the Seychelles Business Academy in 2020 as a mature student. I wanted to pursue training in the accounting field and SBSA had the right programme on offer whereby I chose to enrol in the Diploma in Accounting and Finance.
Three years studying at SBSA was an unforgettable experience and a great opportunity. I adapted quickly to my classmates and the learning environment. Unfortunately, we went through the pandemic of Covid-19, where we had to stay at home for months and attend classes through online platforms. Trust me, it was not as easy as we thought it would be, it was something new and different. We had no other choice but to adapt.
Studying accounting was a bit challenging at first but with the help of well-versed lecturers at SBSA, my families, friends, and my study partner, I dedicated my time to my studies. I completed my studies successfully in 2022 and graduated with a Diploma in Accounting and Finance.
The Seychelles Business Studies Academy has what it takes and will shape you to become a professional for the world of work. The academy also provide the opportunity to go on work-based experience which helps give us the practical training.
I am currently studying at the University of Seychelles, undertaking a BSc (Honors) in Business Administration. My studies at SBSA have definitely prepared me to undertake studies at University level. I am forever grateful to my lecturers at SBSA for helping to mould me into the young professional I am.
SBSA is definitely the place to be! I have not only grown intellectually but personally. Values I’ve learned at SBSA have become a norm in my everyday life. Values such as Integrity, Objectivity, Honesty. Doing things in a professional manner is also what I have grasped at SBSA. Today I can proudly say that I have achieved milestones through studying at SBSA. Through the amazing support from lecturers, learning has been so much easier than anticipated and I managed to graduate as one of the top performers of 2021. With perseverance and hard work, I now have the opportunity to pursue my studies further.
The motto ‘Gateway to Opportunities’ was just a phrase when I first set foot on the SBSA campus; but at the culmination of my studies, it has become a reality!
My journey at Seychelles Business Studies Academy started in 2020 and my time there has been an excellent experience and a memory to cherish for a lifetime. The Academy was a great contribution to my professional development. I enrolled in the Diploma in Accounting and Finance and I was excited though I did not have a clue of what challenges to expect along the way.
The first year was all about adapting to new types of learning, classmates, lecturers, and the environment itself. Unfortunately, three months along the way, the real challenges began. We were mostly doing online learning at home through Zoom and Microsoft Teams due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was not easy as it was my first time doing online classes. Gradually, we were back on campus and my study partner and I devoted our time covering lost time. We used our non-contact time and stayed after hours to study and work on past papers.
My hard work paid off and at every end of year I was given recognition for my achievements at the prize giving ceremony. This gesture pushed me to work harder for the coming year.
As we had been told, the third year was truly not a walk in the park. It took patience, understanding, devotion and courage to continue. Going out at night was just not an option. My lecturers and parents kept my spirit lifted with words of encouragement and I was flushed with joy when I opened the result slip and it stated “Graduated with a Diploma”. Sudden realization hit me that all my sacrifices had paid off.
I am currently for a studying BSc in Applied Accounting at The Guy Morel Institute under a Government of Seychelles Scholarship. SBSA leaves no stone unturned to shape one’s future and have put so many efforts to groom us. The academy holds great opportunities for learning and to experience the joy and love of the SBSA family is certainly an added bonus.
It all started in 2018 when I had to decide on my path at the end of my secondary studies. I had selected Independent School A levels, SALS and SBSA as my initial options for post-secondary studies, while not certain on which path I wanted to take. In early 2019, after I got accepted by all the institutions that I had applied to, I took some time to think about what I really wanted to do.
The decision to join SBSA for the Diploma in Accounting and Finance came after evaluating what I felt I was most interested in (business, economics, and finance) and after consulting people I knew in the business field. The fact that SBSA was offering a local Diploma, the opportunity to sit international exams (AAT) that are recognised worldwide and the ability to get a fully sponsored government scholarship by achieving a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 75%, were immediately attractive to me. The best decision that I have made up to now!
My 3 years at SBSA honestly exceeded my expectations. The level of teaching was always at a high standard and lecturers were always doing their best to make sure that students succeeded. Resources required to help students succeed in their studies were always available. For example, we had our e-books, notes prepared by lecturers either through PowerPoint presentations or Word document and past papers readily available to us. Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, the academy adapted to the new normal and introduced online classes, which kept us on track to finish our studies on time and not suffer from delays caused by the pandemic.
The environment at the academy was always a good one and this played a role in pushing me to do better, as you thrive in a positive environment. The other students were also really friendly; hence, it has always been easy for me to interact with them and even ask for help or offer my help.
Although I faced a lot of stress and pressure at times due to the number of assessments and exams that I had to sit in short periods of time, at the end of the day, it paid off. I was able to get through those three years with exceptional grades like 100%, 99%, etc, continuously, for international exams and such successes were indeed not just down to my determination and hard work, but also down to the enormous amount of effort and work from the lecturers as well as the support of my family. On my graduation day, I was awarded the AAT Award, the Most Outstanding Performer in Accounting and Finance Award and the first Medal of Academic Excellence Award introduced this year.
SBSA has really played a massive role in my formative years and now, while I consider my next options for further studies, thanks to SBSA and my work hard, I have a wide variety of options that I can choose from.
SBSA is not only limited to students completing their secondary studies, but they also have a wide variety of courses for mature students or other individuals interested in enhancing their studies. Therefore, I would recommend anyone with an interest in the business field to consider SBSA as their next step as they won’t be disappointed.
